GENERAL QUESTIONS

1. How are you funded?
A: Approximately 80% of Chrysalis funding is directly from the Province of Alberta’s PDD. Other funding sources include the corporate community, the Chrysalis Charitable Foundation, Chrysalis Woods & Plastics Limited Partnership, private donations, fundraising activities and Chrysalis special events.

2. How many offices do you have?
A: Chrysalis has two offices: the head office in Edmonton, and a regional office in Calgary.

3. How many people use Chrysalis services?
A: Approximately 350 individuals access Chrysalis vocational, life skills, and day services per year.

4. How will hiring Chrysalis-trained workers help my business?
A: When your company hires a Chrysalis trained worker, everyone wins. Hiring an individual with disabilities will diversify your business and create new opportunities for your business to grow. The job-coaching and support Chrysalis provides costs nothing to you and is and is a value-added advantage. Individuals at Chrysalis offer a unique set of skills and a genuine desire to contribute in a meaningful way.

5. Do you charge a placement fee?
A: No.

6. What services do Chrysalis-trained workers offer businesses?
A: Chrysalis offers a job shadow opportunities to see the individual at work before placing them in the employment position. Chrysalis also provides follow up support if required to ensure a success partnership between the employee and your business.

7. Who pays for Workman’s Compensation Board (WCB) Coverage?
A: During the training period, WCB is covered by Chrysalis. If your business decides to hire the individual, you are then required WCB coverage.

8. Is there a pay subsidy to my business when hiring a potential employee through Chrysalis?
A: No. Following the interview, if the individual is determined suitable for the position they are hired at least a minimum wage.

9. What are the expectations of my business when hiring a person with disabilities?
A: Depending on the individual hired and what tasks they are required to perform, additional time for training will be provided with support from Chrysalis staff. Chrysalis also encourages a natural environment where Chrysalis-trained workers are treated the same and given the same expectations as other staff members.

10.How do I qualify for Chrysalis Services?
A: To qualify for Chrysalis’ Services you need to meet the following criteria:
Be eligible for PDD (Person’s with Developmental Disabilities).
Have a diagnosed disability
Be over the age of 18
A stabilized mental illness
Motivated and committed—wanting to be here and have our support to get a job
Responsible for own transportation

11. What kind of jobs do you provide?
A: At Chrysalis you will learn transferable job skills at one of our Community Based Training sites such as following instructions, problem solving and working as part of a team. Once you have demonstrated a good understanding of these skills, we will assist you in finding a job in an area of interest to you in the community. By identifying your interests and skills we will try and match you with a job that will best suit you. We have contacts with over 300 businesses in the Edmonton area.

12. How long is the job training period?
A: The job training period is a minimum of 12 weeks. It will depend on individual support needs.

13. When will I get my first job?
A: This question depends on you. Chrysalis is not an employment agency; it is a vocational day program which will assist you in developing transferable work skills that may lead to successful employment.

14. Who helps me to reach my goal?
A: The staff members who work directly with you will help you to reach your goals, keep track of how you are doing, and will meet and talk with you and your guardian (if you have a guardian). When you begin working at your job or volunteer site, your Chrysalis staff will be there at the job with you to provide on-the-job training and support

15. Am I covered under WCB (Workers Compensation Board) while I am working at a site?
A: Yes. Chrysalis will cover WCB when you are at a community-training site and while you are at Chrysalis. If you are hired for a job, your employer pays for WCB. If you volunteer at a site, you are covered under WCB by either Chrysalis or by the site.

16. What kind of wood pallets does Chrysalis make?
A: Chrysalis makes all wooden pallets in spruce and rough spruce. (softwood lumber)

17. What sizes do you build?
A: We custom build in sizes ranging 24” to 240”.

18. What are the prices for a standard size?
A: There is no actual standard size as each customer has different usage. The prices depend on the number of boards, kind of lumber and the durability strength of the pallets.

19. What about any heavy-duty pallets?
A: Chrysalis is able to build these kinds of pallets using 4X4 stringers, 2X6 and 2X10 as deck boards.

20. Besides wooden pallets, what else does Chrysalis make?
A: Chrysalis also makes wooden crane pads, shipping crates and funeral cremation crates.

21. What kind of lead-time you need for an order?
A: Lead-time depending on the quantity of pallets on order, the kind of pallets, (heavy-duty or light duty) the availability of lumber and also on how busy Chrysalis is.

22. Do you ship to customers?
A: We hire a truck to do shipping if you do not have some one you use. Shipping is only in Edmonton and surrounding areas. As for out of town, we can arrange freight courier to ship any part of Canada collect to you.

23. What type of plastic bottles does Chrysalis produce?
A: High Density Polyethylene blow molded plastics bottles.

24. How many different sizes of bottles can you produce?
A: From 225 ml Jar to 11 liter bottles and few custom sizes

25. What are the different sizes available?
A: Some of the sizes for plastic containers include: 225 ml Jar, 1 litre Carafe 28 – 400, 1 litre Carafe 28 410, 1 litre Round 28 – 410, 1 litre Round 53 mm, 1.9 litre custom’s, 2 litre Custom’s, 4 litre Sq 89 mm, 4 litre oblong 38mm, 4 litre Round, 4 litre Round UN, 4 litre N/S, 1 Gal. Sq, 10 litre and 11 lt.

26. What are the different colours available?
A: Natural and White are the common color, custom colors available with minimum quantity of 5000 bottles.

27. How many bottles are available in pack?
A: All bottles are pack in boxes or bags. Quantity varied by sizes.
